2025 Ducati DesertX Discovery For Adventure Riders

Mar. 7 2026 Buying Guide By Ducati NYC

If you love adventure riding, you know the right motorcycle can make or break a trip. The 2025 Ducati Desert X Discovery is built for riders who want to go further in comfort. It takes the capable DesertX platform and adds key features for longer days in the saddle. At Ducati New York, we are excited to see this model arrive. Our team wants to give you a closer look at what it offers.

The Discovery slots neatly between the standard DesertX and the hardcore Rally model. It is designed for adventure touring, adding comfort and protection straight from the factory. For 2025, it arrives in a new "Thrilling Black/Ducati Red" color scheme that looks sharp on the road or trail.

What Makes the Discovery Different?

The biggest changes on the DesertX Discovery focus on making long rides more enjoyable and giving you peace of mind when the pavement ends. Instead of making you buy and install these items yourself, Ducati brings them as standard equipment.

Rider Comfort Upgrades

  • Heated Grips. These are standard to keep your hands warm on chilly morning rides or high-altitude passes. They let you ride deeper into the season and handle weather changes without stopping.
  • Larger Touring Windshield. This part is designed to be more aerodynamic and reduce fatigue on the highway. Wind buffeting can wear you out after hours of riding. The taller screen pushes air up and over for a calmer ride.
  • A standard centerstand makes daily maintenance, cleaning, and chain adjustments much easier when you are away from your home garage. It also makes parking on soft ground more stable.

Bike Protection Features

  • Reinforced Hand Guards. These offer better protection for your levers and hands from branches and debris. They take the hit instead of your fingers and help keep levers from snapping off in a drop.
  • Engine Guards. Specific guards add protection for the water pump, a vulnerable point on off-road bikes. They bolt on solidly and redirect impacts away from the engine case.
  • Radiator Protection. A guard helps shield the radiator from rocks and mud. It stops sharp objects while letting air flow through to keep the engine cool.
  • More Robust Skid Plate. This includes subframe reinforcement and is shaped to help redirect impacts away from vital components. It slides over obstacles instead of letting them hit hard parts.

Under the Skin: The Heart of a DesertX

Mechanically, the Discovery shares its core with the bikes that have earned the DesertX name its reputation. It uses the same 937cc Testastretta 11° engine, producing 110 hp at 9,250 rpm and 68 lb.-ft of torque at 6,500 rpm. This motor has proven reliable across thousands of miles in all kinds of conditions.

The capable chassis carries over, as does the generous 5.5-gallon fuel tank for long range. You can easily cover 200 miles or more between fill-ups. The seat height sits at 34.4 inches, which is the same as the base model. You can lower or raise it with accessory parts if needed.

Riders will appreciate the updated tech, including turn-by-turn navigation displayed directly on the 5-inch TFT dash through the Ducati Link app. This keeps your eyes where they belong on the road ahead. The system pairs with your phone and shows arrows right on the screen.

The Discovery also keeps the five riding modes from the DesertX family. Three modes focus on road riding while two are built specifically for off-road use. These modes change how the power delivers and how the traction control behaves.

How It Compares in the DesertX Family

The base DesertX starts at $17,995 and gives you a solid platform to build on. Many riders like this route because they can pick their own upgrades with aftermarket parts.

The Discovery comes in at $19,995. For that extra $2,000, you get all the comfort and protection items listed above already installed. This is a good deal if you planned to add these things anyway. The heated grips alone are a popular add-on, and the centerstand and skid plate would cost you time and money to install later.

At the top sits the DesertX Rally at $22,995. That model adds longer travel suspension, a steering damper, and other parts for serious off-road riding.

Should You Choose the Discovery?

This new model is ideal for the rider planning multi-day adventures. The touring comforts make highway miles easier. The protection parts give you confidence to explore rougher roads without worrying about damaging the bike.

If you are new to adventure riding, the Discovery offers a ready-to-go package. You do not need to research which skid plate fits best. It all comes from the factory working together. At Ducati New York, we can show you how these features work.

For riders who love customizing, the base model still makes sense. You can build exactly what you want with your choice of motorcycle parts and accessories.

For riders focused on maximum off-road capability, the Rally is worth a look. Its suspension soaks up big hits that would bottom out other bikes.
